Let's Begin with The Night Circus

An Introduction
When I look back on my teen years (middle and high school), my memories are punctuated by books.  I can see myself on a playground swing with my nose in a book, staying up late into the night because I couldn't put the book down, and even one event involving books that resulted in my being grounded for a week.  As an adult my life still seems to revolve around the written word -- I'm a school librarian.

It is a great joy to be able to share my passion for books every day.  Out of that joy flows a desire to help teens find great books they can get lost in.  So, I started this blog to share with you the new titles I've gotten lost in lately.  To begin, let me tell you about a new book that has found a permanent spot on my favorites list -- The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

"The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it, no notices on downtown posts and billboards, no mentions or advertisements in local newspapers. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not."

That's the opening and the backdrop for the amazing story that unfolds.  It's the story of Celia and Marco, two young magicians who have been forced to face each other in a duel of magical feats.  As they each try to best each other, they fall headlong into love.  Unfortunately, what they didn't know was that their teachers constructed this competition to end only when there is but one magician left standing.

Still, Celia and Marco are determined to find a way to stay together.  The choices they make will affect everything and everyone at the circus -- from the attractions they create to the performers and even the patrons.

Erin Morgenstern has woven a mesmerizing story; you won't be able to look away. For more information, visit Erin Morgenstern's website.
